Yoga | The Benefits

Over the past few years as my anxiety has reached a peak, yoga has been one of the best self help methods I have engaged in. I try to practice it as regularly as I can, and I’ve seen remarkable improvements in my physical and mental health.

One of the ways yoga can help you is by increasing your flexibility. Yoga doesn’t require any straining physical exercise, it’s almost like a series of intense stretches. I have become a lot more flexible since starting yoga, especially in my legs and back area.

As well as becoming more flexible, yoga can also help you combat pain such as headaches, arthritis and menstrual pains. It allows you to exercise gently without over exerting yourself and your body.

It’s also great for reducing insomnia and improving sleep.I often find engaging in some light yoga before bedtime makes me feel relaxed and more sleepy, and I often have a more restful nights sleep. This may be something to consider if you have interrupted sleep or don’t get enough.

Personally, I also find yoga to be a brilliant stress reliever. The deep breathing techniques and stretching helps me to relax and also improve my mood. It really helps me feel connected to myself, just a few moments in your spare time can make the world of difference.

If you are new to yoga, I would suggest attending a local class or, if you’re like me and prefer to do yoga in the comfort of your own home, use youtube video guides. I’ve been practising yoga for several years yet I still enjoy having a video to follow along to. It helps me take the focus away from what move I will do next, and concentrate on how I’m moving (something that is very important in yoga). My personal favourite youtuber for yoga is Yoga With Adriene, whose channel I will link here. She provides such great tutorials, support, and encourages all abilities to join in. She really is great!

As it’s the new year, this would be a great time to give yoga a try! It really is amazing.

  1. Love your post! I recently started doing yoga but I think I’m going to try and do some before bed more often now as I’ve had a hard time falling asleep the last few nights.

    1. Ah thats great to hear! Yoga before bed can be great and really beneficial, the channel I linked in the post does some before bed yoga sequences I believe!

  • Wow I have been soo inactive on here recently, and Monday has somehow rolled round again. Life has taken priority and I have been so busy these past few days!
