redefine success

“It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.”

The wise words from the great Bill Gates. This quote is a summary of my reasoning behind creating this post. Throughout life, we are always taught to be goal oriented. Whether it’s getting a promotion at work, saving up a set amount of money, or upping your grades in school. We often get lost in this notion that these big goals are the only achievements worth celebrating, but what about all the baby steps you took to get there? The failures, the little successes and the journey to that end point? I am slowly learning to be pleased with these small steps that lead to success, and this is why you should too.

how to be successful

Life is a long and hectic journey. We are often blinded by the more ‘important’ goals in life, which can result in us ignoring a lot of the vital steps along the way. Don’t get me wrong, not every step of the way is going to be glamorous (trust me, I know). However, the slip-ups should serve as lessons, and not failures.

If you don’t succeed the first time you do something, try again! What’s the worst that can happen? Taking risks and being enthusiastic to triumph in the end is all part of success. Don’t let one small mistake deter you from what you really want. Take note of what went wrong the first time, and adapt future solutions based on this consolidation.

So, maybe we need to start paying attention to our own lives, and stop caring as much about other people’s opinions

There are far too many times in life where decisions are made based on the decisions and wishes of others. But is it what you want? Yes, close members of your family and friends may just be trying to help you, but stop and question whether that’s the direction you want your life to head in.

Being a little selfish is okay

There is often the stigma that selfishness is a terrible trait (which often is true), but every so often you do need to put yourself first. How does this relate to success? Well, a lot of people live their life in a way that will please others. Whether it’s going out, reaching a fitness goal or changing jobs. Unfortunately, the cringiest saying is true, you only live once. I know I know, it’s the most overused quote in history and probably most 13 year old girls’ instagram bios, but it is true.

So maybe success is simply being content with your decisions and where you are right now. Yes of course being goal oriented is never a bad thing, and having a milestone to aim for is motivating. But make sure the end goal is yours and at the end of the day, will make you happy.

How do you define success?

Lots of love and have a productive and happy week.
