Essential Charity Shopping Tips + Mini Clothing Haul

Let’s talk charity shopping

Hello my loves! Long time no see! I have gone back to posting on my blog on Wednesdays and Sundays, as I got much better traffic then! But have no fear, I am back today with a post for y’all.

Who doesn’t love a good bargain, am I right? I’m a frequent visitor to charity shops, and honestly some of my favourite wardrobe pieces have come from there. I know a lot of people hold the stereotype that they are just full of your mum’s natty old clothes, but honestly, they’re not! So after a twitter poll, today I am bringing you some shopping tips to find the best deals around, I hope you enjoy!

The Tips

Ditch the negativity

I know many people who won’t step foot in a charity shop because they’re embarrassed or don’t want to wear somebody’s old clothes. If you’re going to charity shop successfully, you need to dispose of any negative associations you have with it. Give it a shot!

Dive right in!

(Please don’t take this literally, I don’t want you getting kicked out the shop for launching yourself at a clothing rail..). But honestly, you have to sift through all the crap to find the gems. Often enough items get shoved to the back or aren’t immediately visible, so have a good pick over everything.

The men’s section

Don’t be afraid to have a gander in the men’s section too (or vice versa for the guys). As a lover of oversized anything, this is a great place to look. I have found several oversized shirts and tees that I can cut into a crop top or just knot the bottom, I love it! (If you would like a post on how I alter some of the clothing I buy, let me know!).

Clearance rails

Now, I know a lot of the time this rack is the ‘please take these items for 99p it’s bunging up our storage’, but there are always a few gems hidden away. The other day, I got 3 tops at 99p each, and then it was 3 for 2 on all clearance. Bargain or what?! Don’t pass up on these rails!

Pop back regularly

Most charity shops refresh their stock on a weekly basis, and you want first dibs on those fresh finds! Check back every now and then to see what’s new in at your local shops.

Keep an open mind

You’re unlikely to come across items straight out of Vogue at your local Oxfam, but you will find some classics, vintage goodies and the timeless pieces nobody can turn down. Since I began charity shopping, I have become a lot more adventurous with my wardrobe, especially with the addition of brighter colours. It’s a great way to experiment with you style, as if in a few months you don’t like it, it’s not a large financial loss.

It’s for a good cause

If you come away with nothing else after purchasing from a charity shop, make it that you’ve donated to a great cause!

The Haul

white mom jeans

These white mom style jeans were an absolute steal at just £2! They are a little long on me, so I will most likely chop them and maybe fray the hems.

sleeveless purple top

I had the vision for this little 99p purple top to knot the front and wear with mom jeans. I love basic tees likes this, they are so easy to style!

charity shop suede burnt orange top

Another 99p bargain, this cute little rust coloured cami was originally from New Look. It has that soft suede feel, and will be perfect for summer!

cropped purple asos hoodie

This hoodie was one of my fave purchases from this charity shopping trip. It’s originally from ASOS, and I got it for £2.49! It’s slightly cropped and is a gorgeous colour!

charity shop flared high waisted cord trousers

I have been looking for a pair of cord trousers for the longest time, and then I found these for £3! As these are flared and a little long on me, I will probably crop them a little. They are originally from Miss Selfridge and are so high waisted, I love them!

button down blouse

I feel that button down blouses are very on trend at the moment. I picked this knitted-style one up for £2 and I love it! It will look perfect tucked into jeans or a skirt.

I really hope you enjoyed this post, happy charity shopping!
