Going Bold with My Personal Style + Changing How I Shop

I’ve talked about personal style previously in my post on leaving your fashion comfort zone, but now I’d like to address just how my style is evolving. If you follow me on the gram, you’ll know I’m a big advocate for personal style and self confidence. They’re two things that are very important to me in everyday life.

I think there’s this odd stigma that only a certain type of person can wear ‘fashionable’ clothes (whatever that phrase means to you. You know the size 6, tall, beautiful ladies you follow on instagram, that could literally wear a bin bag and still make it on to the vogue front cover! (No hate towards anyone that fits this description, you’re all beautiful girl bosses)

It’s so important to dress how you want to

For me, changing my personal style to brighter colours, bolder prints and more outlandish pieces is me wearing what I really want to. I always consider myself quite an energetic and bubbly gal, so why can’t my fashion sense reflect that?

Even when I first started on instagram, I saw all these aesthetic black and white/nude feeds, and thought I had to follow suit to be a successful content creator. But I soon realised I was trying to force this style, and it most certainly wasn’t me. After a little confidence boost from seeing other colourful, outlandish bloggers bossing the game, I decided it was time for me to do the same. Blogging has definitely impacted my style, but for the better! I am in a place now where I wear what I want, because it makes me feel confident and like myself! Changing my dress sense has definitely given my confidence the kick up the ass it needed, I knew it was hiding within me somewhere!

personal and bold style

So with my confidence built and determination to find and embrace my personal style, my bank account took a bit of a bashing (Oops! Sometimes I’m surprised Lloyds don’t think my card has been stolen..). With this new fashion sense, I also decided to change the way I shop. Now I’ve always been a  bit of a bargain hunter, so the likes of Primark has always enticed me over the heftier price tags of Topshop and Urban Outfitters. However, after sifting through my wardrobe, I realised I had been seriously favouring quantity over quality.

Quality over quantity

From this moment, I began restricting my purchases, and fighting the ruthless impulse buyer inside me. I figured it was better to be buying a few pieces of high quality clothing per month, rather than a ton of pieces that probably wouldn’t make it to the end of the year. Now don’t get me wrong I love Primark and will still shop there. I just didn’t want it to be dominating my wardrobe!

Here are a few pieces on my current wishlist to continue building my bold wardrobe:

As you can see, the colours are bright and the patterns are bold, just how I like it! Expressing my personal style for others to see makes me feel so good, and I recommend you try it! Dress for you, and nobody else! I hope you enjoyed this post and take something from it!
