How I Went From Acne Prone Skin to Blemish Free in a Month

80% of young people globally suffer from acne.

That’s a lot of people. Are you one of them? If the answer is yes, it’s time to change that.

I’ve suffered from acne prone skin for as long as I can remember. It’s affected my mental health, confidence and my ability to step outside the door without wishing I had a balaclava handy. Sound familiar? Well you definitely aren’t alone!

Recently I was kindly sent some products from the slightly higher end skincare brand, Dermalogica. I’ve always wanted to test out their products as I have heard some excellent reviews. Dermalogica are also cruelty free which is great! I wrote a post all about cruelty free beauty, read it here.

However, as I usually am when trying yet another skincare range, I was skeptical. Would it actually do anything? Or would it be the same as the hundreds of products I have already tried? I thought I’d give it a chance and changed my skincare routine to integrate the new skincare products.

Treating acne prone skin

Let’s get into the products I received. Dermalogica picked the products to send me based on my unique skin concerns, not just bulk sent to lots of bloggers. I thought this was a nice personal touch! I love the packaging of these products, it’s simple but practical.

Pre Cleanse

This product intrigued me the most, as I have never used one before. There’s always been a great controversy in the skincare world as to whether double cleansing is better or worse for your skin.

I can happily say after using this product that it’s a definite yes! It has an oily consistency, which I was a little skeptical about at first. You apply the pre cleanser to dry skin and massage it in. This breaks up all the leftover makeup and oil on your skin. Wash it off afterwards, and your skin will feel as soft as a baby’s bum (no kidding).

I believe it is this product that has helped transform my skin to where it is now. It’s a step I have never used in my skincare routine before, and it has definitely improved my acne prone skin issues. This product also smells amazing.

This cleanser has a gel based formula, which I know is supposed to be better for skin types like my own. I love the bottle for this product, it has one of those pop up lids (I’m easily amused, I know).

You really don’t need a lot of this, it foams up into a lather and a little goes a long way. It smells delicious, but doesn’t have a harsh scent which I really like.

Active moist moisturiser

I’ve always struggled to find a moisturiser suitable for my difficult skin type. Most are too thick and clog my pores like crazy.

However, I think I may have found the perfect one in this little guy. This citrus scented beauty is so incredibly light feeling and seems to be the only moisturiser to agree with my acne prone skin right now. You don’t need a lot of this, which I think helps balance out the heftier price tag.

Daily resurfacer pads

These little packets have a small exfoliating pad which you can place on your index finger, and exfoliate your skin daily. I find the smell slightly over powering, but not unbearable.

I haven’t begun to use these daily yet, as I thought it could be a little harsh on my breakouts. I’ve been using one very 2 to 3 days, which for now is definitely enough for my skin.

Solar defence booster

This product really intrigued me, as I’ve never used anything like it before. Sun protection is such an important part of a skincare routine, but a lot of people overlook it.

These drops allow you to add sun protection to whatever moisturiser/serum product you desire. Make sure it’s one you apply in the morning and is long lasting. I’ve never found a suncream for my face that doesn’t make my skin flare like crazy, so this may be the answer! Hoorah!

They don’t make my skin feel oily and protect my skin from the sun. It’s a win win situation!

I really hope you found this post useful and maybe give some of these products a go. I know they are slightly pricier, but in my eyes it’s totally worth it! Have you tried Dermalogica before? Let me know in the comments!

Lots of love,
